paul ryan around mitt romney's neck like a mill stone. paul ryan's policies are deadly unpopular and he's basically been allowed to kind of get away with it and paper over what he believes and what mitt romney believes. but paul ryan is just a terrible deficit for the ticket. the other thing is it is a base senator john mccain by 2 to 1 in the margin in the youth vote in this country. it's crucial for the president to get similar numbers this time around if he's going to win the state of florida. of course, to vote they must be registered and voter registration drives have been underway for months. yeah, i'm looking to save, but i'm not sure which policy is right for me. you should try our coverage checker. it helps you see if you have too much coverage or not enough, making it easier to get what you need. everybody to do less well than they should. so i think now mitt romney and paul ryan are starting to pick up. host: what kind of ground game do you need to pick up ohio? guest: it is tougher for republicans because our vote is scattered in the rural counties, northwest ohio, eastern ohio now becoming more republican. it used to be more democratic. the democratic vote is concentrated in the northeast, i hope the county, in the cities of columbus and cincinnati. so they have an easier time. but led by the republican national committee, the ground game is very good this year. as far as gopac is concerned, we support state and local candidates. we're targeting state and local candidates in swing districts to turn out the votes from the bottom up, not the top down. host: explain that a little bit more. guest: we support the next generation of republicans, and these are republicans running primarily at the state and legislative level. we look for individuals that have leadership capabilities who someday might be speaker of the house or who would run for congress or senate sunday. those of the peop

. >> his running mate just dates before, paul ryan directly contradicted romney. ryan said lowering the tax rates was more important than anything else, including getting rid of those deductions to pay for them supposedly. let's watch. >> what's most important to romney, would he scale back on the 20% tax cut for the wealthy? would he scale back and say, okay, we're going to have to raise taxes for the middle class? i guess the question is what's most important to him in his tax reform plan -- >> keeping tax rates down. by lowering tax rates, people keep more of the next dollar they earn. >> that's more important -- >> that's more important than anything. >> in other words, it is, in fact, a tax cut. it's not an offset, a tax cutoff set by deductions. most importantly, it's to get the tax rates down from 35% to 38%. that's the goal he said. ron? >> romney said something interesting in the debate where he basically said nobody can say that my tax cut is going to add to the deficit if i say it won't. well, in fact, everybody who has looked at the plan says it will add to the deficit. there is

and to defend romney's record. but if this ticket were to lose, paul ryan has a long future in bomb ticks or he certainly would like to hope that and i think that's a fair idea. and, therefore, he wants to come out of this with his integrity intact and with his own positions intact. and i think biden will play that like a wedge trying to either get ryan to abandon his own record or to abandon his own record or to embrace romney and then he'll go after that. >> there's one question that in every vice presidential debate i think is the key question for a lot of voters out there, and that is this guy's going to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. am i comfortable with that. and we can have a little fun with it, maybe you saw these pictures from "time" magazine today. but i think when you see paul ryan and these are pictures of him working out, it does speak a little bit to what has been written a lot about, which is the generational divide. and experience divide, as well. either really on on the surface or subconsciously, do you think that's a big deal here? >> i don't. i think both of these

to want to really frame a negative message against romney and ryan, and pick up where the president didn't do that well last week, or didn't mention at all, thinking of issues like the auto ballot, social security, the ryan proposal on that. the medicare issue, the 47% comment that romney made and people were stunned that obama didn't mention that last week. and, of course, romney's income taxes and how he made his money at bain consulting. those are all issues i think we will hear from joe biden on. and it is very different than what biden's pass was four years ago, steve, as you recall facing sarah palin. the biggest challenge been for biden was don't patronize sarah palin, don't bully sarah palin certainly, try to a quarter to a certain degree of respect. i think this is a different time, and paul ryan is a different opponent. >> there's been what some are calling the rebuttal as both congressman paul ryan, republican vice president to nominate and vice president biden try to set expectations for the debate on thursday. let me share with you will paul ryan said on the fox news channel

question though for paul ryan is he going to deny some of the things in his budget, that governor romney has -- is he going to be more specific than governor romney wrz in terms of how they're actually going to pay for the tax cuts. and the vice president, he doesn't need advise from me, but he just needs to be himself. he is a son of the middle class, who understands the middle class issues extremely well. >> why do you think he has developed this reputation for, shall we say misspeaking. this is five years ago, before he was vice president, quoting from an editorial that called him a gaff machine. >> vice president biden is just a very real guy, he loves people and he tells it like it is, and sometimes when you tell it like it is and you're not really carefully scripted, all of us say things. i can tell you though, that the real joe biden is extraordinarily grounded in what matters to real people. this is a guy who grew up, a son of a car salesman, you know, grew up in a near wilmington, delaware. a very hard worker, the people of delaware love him, they have seen him good and bad thro
